A
Big Thank You . . .

The
outpouring of support and affection for David since his stroke on March 20th
2009 has been very heartwarming and is truly appreciated.
On
behalf of David, and all of us working to help him through this, a very BIG,
and very sincere Thank You.
To be clear, our
goal for David is nothing less than a complete return to the activities and
life he was enjoying before this happened.
We are encouraged by all the success stories, but it is a lot of work
for him to deal with. I have
created this separate “How Can I Help” page as a resource to
provide information for those that would like to help in some way and are
looking for suggestions.
You can follow his
journey on the internet journal
that we update with his progress and the road travelled.
The journey to
recovery is difficult, both emotionally and physically. Every word of support
and encouragement is greatly appreciated and really does help, more than you
can imagine., even now more than one year later. Now that we are home from the hospital
you’ll find us at the store many weekends and weekday afternoons after 3
pm. Otherwise, you can reach us at
home or on my cell phone between 9am and 7pm most days.
If you need the
contact info, email me at: drew@clementineskitchen.com
In the internet
journal I included reference to the SVMH Foundation and the CHOMP Foundation
for donations related to the therapy dog programs. Those are good organizations, but
the organization that is helping the most for David right now is the Josephine Kearns Memorial Therapy Pool in
Monterey (http://www.kernespool.org)
They depend a lot on donations from the public to
support their work. Even before his stroke we were supporters of theirs, and
now David is a devoted user (and it REALLY helps him!). Any donation is welcomed by them and you
can mention David’s name, or not, at your discretion.
Thankfully David
has health insurance and their support has been crucial to cover his expenses
which now exceed $2 million.
Unfortunately, as most plans do, they cut off therapy after only 24
visits a year and only pay 70% of most expenses for things like his leg braces
or the arm therapy equipment. The
cost of continuing that for the rest of the year on our own falls to us and for
the most part we are making do.
In response to
those that have told us they want to help underwrite some of his therapy, I
established the ‘David Babcock Medical Expense Foundation’ to help defray these ongoing
expenses. Checks should be
made out to “David Babcock Medical Expenses” and sent to:

Since the
Foundation only helps David (one individual), it is not a registered 501(c)3, however depending on your own tax status it might still be
tax deductible.
